| After lunch the afternoon lecture program starts with a lecture on Particle Acceleration in Space by Dr Martin Hardcastle of Bristol University. |
| The afternoon also included a tour of the Bristol University Physics department. The tour begins on the roof of the Physics building.. |
| where we are shown the departments astronomical equipment |
| including a radio telescope |
| the rooftop also provides an excellent view of the rest of the campus and local area |
| including the old part of the physics building, built with a grant from the Wills company which made its fortune in the tobacco industry. |
| Access to the roof area if through the room from which the telescope is controlled. |
| we are shown through the labs and then down more stairs to.. |
| the physics library in the old building |
| Vince explains the effort required to keep the Physics library from being consolidated into a university wide facility. |
| And finally to one of the lecture rooms, where Vince points out the balcony from which students launch their paper airplanes during lectures. |
| The last event for the day was a lively debate hosted by Quentin Cooper |
| After our dinner at the Shoots floating resturant, we retired to the Greenhouse, where the upstairs balcony had been reserved for our use. |
| The exclusive arrangement meant that it was actually possible to sit down, which was a contrast to the previous night when at times there was barely room to stand up. |
| Vinny is always amoungst the last to leave, in spite of being responsible for much of the organizing. |
| a group shot of the people at my end of the room.. |
| not all of whom appear entirly sober.. |
