19th August - The Drilling and Stratigraphy team

On day three we finish our orientation, and are assigned our various tasks. I was assigned to the core drilling team with Pete and Corrado. We headed out to Bottaccione with the Stratigraphy team (David, Lucille, Jaime and Michel) to start work - or so we thought..
The drill and stratigraphy teams stop off at the Bar - Ristorante Bottaccione for some coffee and ice cream before starting work..
We finished our coffee and ice cream just in time to see the truck with our drilling equipment turn up for lunch, and unable to start without it, we settled in for some more eating.
The stratigraphers finally start work. Michel and Lucille in the foreground, Jaime and David in the background.
And the drill team swings into action, after lively debate on drill threads and unscrewing techniques with the Italian operators.
David, Corrado and Pete puzzle over the first set of cores after an initial lesson on extraction techniques, which results in our first set of cores being labelled oops1, oops2 and oops3.
While Jaime carries on with the task of classifying the strata around the boundry.
