27 August - Gubbio and Contessa

Drilling in Bottaccione was completed in the morning, so we took some time off to explore the nearest town - Gubbio.

Another view of Gubbio from the Palazzo.
View down a stair well in the Palazzo.

Then it was on to our next site at Contessa.

The Italian drill operators check for water pipes using devining sticks.. We were skeptical, so I was treated to a quick lesson in water devination.
I sort and mark the cores while Pete makes notes in the background.
More marking and recording of samples at Contessa.

28 August - our last day in the field.

Approaching the final drill site at Furlo. Note the clearly defined strata in the background.
