Lena and I had arranged to meet Masha and Sasha at metro
stations en-route, but rather predictably by the time we had
everyone we ended up having to run from the metro station with
all of our gear, boarding the train within about 30 seconds of
its departure...
Our train departed Moscow at 00:28am on Tuesday 28th December.
As usual, the timetable for our journey was available on the wall at the
front of the carriage. This outlined the times and durations for each of
our stops along the way, the longer ones being valued opportunities to
get out and get some exercise, or buy some supplies from the numerous
vendors that ply their trade on the platforms.
At 12:39 we had had some rest, and Sasha was examining the map
that Lena and I had bought the previous day.
There was plenty of snowy winter scenery outside, but the results I got
trying to take pictures through the grubby windows really didn't do it
justice.
This picture was taken at 12:46, between Volkovstroi-1 and Lodyoinoye Polye.

At 13:30 Lena and Sasha during our 20 minute stop at Lodyoinoye Polye,
a little behind schedule according to the timetable as we should have
been leaving at this point.
Between them to the rear you can see a typical platform entrepreneur
plying her wares to the passengers.
Sasha and me still on the platform at 13:39.
At 16:32 during out 20 minute stop at Petrozavodsk on Tuesday afternoon.
At this time it was already getting dark, producing a very Christmas like
scene, with the tree lights and real snow.
We were evidently a little behind schedule as we were supposed to have
left here at 16:24.
Standing in front of an old Soviet train at 16:38, and it is already
a bit too dark to see me.
Another shot with a flash, so you can see me but not much of the background.
Lena and Masha at 19:46, in front of the picturesque station house during
our 30 minute stop at Medvezhya Gora.
A bit closer so that you can see Lena and Masha, but now you
can't really see the station house..
about a minute later they have spotted a mound of snow to play in...
Lena and Masha frolicking in the snow.
I think this was one of Masha's moon pictures.
Later that day, after catching up on a little sleep, we are
invited to Sasha's house for a shower, as she had the luxury of
indoor washing facilities.
Here, at 13:00, Sasha is leading us to the bus stop for the short
ride to her place.
A little later, freshly washed and being treated to Sasha's hospitality.
This picture was taken with the timer, which is the reason for the
artefact from the surface the camera was balanced on visible
at the bottom of the image.
