Tuesday November 4th - New Jeruselem and Ravel's Bolero

New Jerusalem

On Monday I saw Greg and Olya, and spent the evening at their place. However I don't seem to have taken any pictures, so we move on to Tuesday and my excursion to the monastery of New Jerusalem..

At midday I met Lena at Rizhskaya metro station, from which we would proceed to the station for our train ride to the North West of Moscow..

imgp1411.jpg After a slow start, our train eventually arrived at Novouerusalumskeya station at 14:54. I am not really sure that I have translated that name into English correctly, but you can read it in Russian on the station sign in this picture.

Lena organizing her bag after alighting our train which is about to depart behing her. We were now but a short bus ride from our destination. imgp1410.jpg

imgp1413.jpg We arrive at the monastery at 15:14 and stop just inside the main gate for some pictures.

imgp1417.jpg The main hall of the temple was closed for the winter, but at 15:37 we find a door that allows us to peer through a barrier at the interior.

imgp1420.jpg Then back out through the door that we had enterred.

At 15:39 we head towards the library where a friend of Lena's works. imgp1421.jpg

imgp1422.jpg On the way, a view of the main temple from another angle.

At 15:57, a view of the monastery wall as we head back to the main gate to make our exit. imgp1423.jpg

At 16:10, we have decided not to wait for the bus, but to make our way on foot toward the station. We were not sure of the bus frequency, and if we were to make it back to Moscow in time for our concert booking that evening, we needed to get to the station in time to catch the next train. imgp1425.jpg

imgp1426.jpg Lena on an interesting foot bridge that we crossed enroute. The domes of the monastery are visible in the background.

and here I am on the interesting bridge. A bus came by shortly after this, and we made it to the station in good time. The train ride went more smoothly than the one on the way out, and we ended up getting back to Moscow with a good hour to kill. imgp1427.jpg

Ravel's Bolero at the new Conservatorium

imgp1428.jpg On Tuesday evening we made our way to the new Conservatorium for a performance of Ravel's Bolero to which Lena had obtained tickets.

During the half time interval we took the opportunity to take some pictures in the lobby. imgp1430.jpg

imgp1431.jpg then back into the concert hall for the rest of the performance

after one last set of pictures... imgp1432.jpg
