Wednesday 6th October

On Wednesday I was taken on a quick tour of Moscow sights by Albert Abdrakhimov, who was my guide on my previous visit to Moscow.
Albert standing in front of the Hotel Sputnik on Leninski prospekt, my home for the next few days.
Albert standing in front of the famous Bolshoi Theatre
The gates outside Red Square, with the Kremlin on the right.
The eternal flame in front of the Kremlin, commemerating those that fell in WWII.
Another view, more clearly showing the Kremlin behind with Red Square behind and to the left.
A view of the old Moscow State University building in the city centre. Albert tells me that it was established in 1757 by Mikhail Vasil'evich Lomonosov, a famous 18th century Russian scientist.
Albert shows me what the locals would typically do for lunch (on the rare occasions that they eat out). Coffee, Piroshkie and an interesting meat pasta dish called "pel'meni", which Albert tells me is a very popular Russian dish, especially in Siberia.
Albert standing in front of the newly restored Hram Hrista-Spasitelya (Christ the Saviour Temple). It was built to commemorate the fallen after the victory in the Napoleonic war in the 19th century, but destroyed by the Bolsheviks in the 1930's.
Myself with the temple in the background.
On the banks of the Moscow River
Albert outside Gorky Park
And myself.
We spent the rest of the afternoon at the nearby Central'ny Dom Hudojnika (Central House of Artists) - the permanent exhibition of modern Russian artists, where Albert helped my practice my Russian as I tried to translate the titles on the exhibits.
Myself at the gallery.
Then back down into the trusty Moscow Metro
To catch my train back to Leninski Prospect
