Friday 8th October

On Friday morning I make my way along Kosygin Street to the Vernadsky Institute
Where the proceedings are opened by Academician Galimov
Greg Michael and Augustine Chicaro joined me for lunch in the Institute caffeteria.
Following the afternoon presentations, the lecture room was transformed with the delivery of drinks
and plenty of food, into the traditional symposium buffet.
Jim Head and Sasha Basilevski presiding over the proceedings
Lyosha and Misha, from Sternberg Institute, enjoying the celebrations.
At the end of the meal the candles are lit
for the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Vernadsky-Brown Microsymposium.
After the Buffet, Heinz, Augustine, Peter and myself decide that it is too early to return to the hotel, so we go in search of some place to spend the rest of the evening. Heinz wanted something more respectable than the dodgy looking stalls by the side of the road, so we ended up at what turned out to be a Pizza resturant that sold the most expensive beer we encountered in Moscow.
